FDA Updates for Food Nutrition Labels

On May 27, 2016, the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) published the final rules for the new Nutrition Facts label requirements for packaged foods. Manufacturers must implement the new label design by July 26, 2018; manufacturers with less than $10M in annual food sales have until July 2019.

While the basic look of Nutrition Facts labels will remain the same, certain aspects, such as calorie count and serving size, have been given more prominence. These minor updates do affect the layout and size of the labels, so if you sell packaged food products, you’ll need to make changes to your packaging to remain in compliance.

Labels West is prepared to work with you and your packaging designers to upgrade your food products’ Nutritional Facts labels to meet the new standards. New-and-improved labels are already popping up on grocery store shelves, and many of our clients are already implementing these changes on their label packaging. Don’t wait until the last minute! Contact Labels West to stay ahead of the game.
